I have a theory that the decline and fall of the human race began when the real advances were made in travel and communication technology. we gloried in ourselves, and celebrated that we had brought everyone closer by means of all these new communications advances. I contest that we did not bring ourselves closer together, but rather alienated ourselves and each other. Humans no longer know how to express themselves the way they did in the days when music, art, poetry, and history were in the forefront of everyones mind. When Alexander Grahm Bell made the first phone call, we began to forget how to talk face to face. The decline of humanity directly coincides with the decline of the quality, quantity, and appreciation of the advanced forms of communication and self-expression.
I feel that I can make a difference in this world if I can get just a few people to see that, and help me re-establish music and art to it's former glory. If we can just get a few humans to re-learn how to express themselves, how to sympathize and communicate with thier fellow humans on a deeper, human level, I beleive we could make a defference in the world. If humans appreciated deeper forms of commuication like art, peotry, music and other media, we could learn to appreciate each other, and ourselves, in a more real, and positive way. We could see wrongs, and put them to right, rather than distancing ourselves from them.
I believe the easiest way to get humans to relate to one another, is through music. Just look at the "Juggulos" or "Emo" groups, who have banded together simply because of similiar choice of music. so I will start there. I am going to college right now, working on a Bachelors degree in Music and Education. I plan to start with the children. If just one of my students grows up learning to appreciate his fellow man, through music, then I will consider my life to be succesful.
